Sacred Heart Schools

Established in 1800, the Society of the Sacred Heart was founded by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat in Amiens, France. In 1818, through the hard work and persistence of St. Philippine Duchesne, the first U.S. foundation was chartered in St. Charles, Missouri. This foundation became the first of many schools of the Sacred Heart to be established around the world. All Sacred Heart schools are independently governed yet united in their observance of the five Sacred Heart Goals, leading students on their path to maturity in learning, faith, and moral strength.  

Sacred Heart schools in Houston date back over 50 years with the Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart opening its doors in 1960 and The Regis School of the Sacred Heart, named for St. John Francis Regis, first holding classes in 1991. Regis was voted into full membership in the Sacred Heart Network in 1998.

Regis is part of a network of 25 Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and Canada and more than 145 schools in 41 countries worldwide. The Sacred Heart Network provides a means for mutual support and development among the schools to further the mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart.

In the Sacred Heart tradition, Regis honors Mary, our Mother, with the title of “Mater Admirabilis,” Mother Most Admirable. Every Sacred Heart school has either a picture or a statue of Mater in a prominent place among their students and faculty. Regis is fortunate to have a lovely image of Mater in the Kelley Building. This statue reminds our students each day of the constant presence and approachability of our Blessed Lady.
