Regis Eighth Grade Student Gains Spot at U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program National Training Center
Baker D.

Baker D Has Been Selected To Participate in the Youth Soccer Soccer Olympic Development Program

Regis eighth grade student, Baker D. has been selected to participate in the United States Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program in Tampa in January 2022.

The Olympic Development Program identifies soccer players of the highest caliber on a continuing and consistent basis, ultimately leading to continued success for the U.S. National Teams in the international arena. In 2020, Baker was invited to try out and was ultimately selected to the South Texas Olympic Development Team. After a tough year of competition, he was invited to participate in the state tournament in Dallas in June 2021. He was again selected to represent Texas in the regional tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in July 2021. The following month, he was placed on the South Region team to compete in Orlando in the Inter-regional tournament this past November. Ultimately, he became one of 20 boys in his age group nationwide selected to participate in the U.S. Youth Soccer ODP National Training Center next month.

Baker plays varsity soccer, rugby and basketball at Regis. He has served as one of the varsity team captains the last two seasons. Baker has shown incredible leadership both on and off the field, always putting the needs of the team and his teammates before his individual stats. His impact on Regis soccer will extend far beyond the years he spent on the team, inspiring his younger teammates (and younger students) to aspire to reach the level of skill and character he shows day-in and day-out. Currently, Baker is touring high schools and will hopefully continue his soccer path wherever he lands. When not playing sports, he loves hanging out with his friends and playing video games.
