#MissionMotivated – Q&A with Mrs. Samantha Georges

Samantha Georges serves as a First Grade Lead Teacher in the Lower School. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. Prior to joining Regis, Samantha was a classroom teacher within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Samantha strives to build both confidence in and excitement for learning.

Q: What do you love most about Regis?

A: I have really enjoyed teaching all boys. It was definitely eye-opening when I first started, but I love their energy. I love how they're really comfortable with each other and not really worried about trying to put on a good face for girls. Just boys being boys.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus?

A: The courtyard under a tree at one of the picnic tables. I usually eat my lunch out there— if there's kids, it's fun to just watch them have fun, and then sometimes it's nice when it's just me and it's silent outside.

Q: What do you admire most about your colleagues?

A: They're all full of knowledge and have years of experience. I go to them for all sorts of things. And for somebody who is newer to Regis, I've learned a lot from them.

Q: What is your favorite Regis school event or tradition?

A: I love listening to the boys sing during morning assembly. That's one of my favorite things. I do love listening to Mr. Barber play and sing, but when he pauses for a moment from his own singing, and you just get to hear everybody else—I think that's really special.

Q: What have you learned from your students?

A: They’ve taught me such a different perspective. I didn't have as much experience with six-year-old and seven-year-olds before coming to Regis two years ago, so just seeing the world from a young kid's perspective has been interesting. I’ve learned that sometimes things are just so simple, and that's really okay.

Q: If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

A: You're going to make a lot of mistakes. I still make mistakes, and y'all, it's okay. It's what I tell them all the time. We all make mistakes, you just don't quit and you don't let it get you down. You find a way to fix it or just find a way to do it better next time.

Q: How would you describe your teaching style?

A:  I don't try to go above them and be like a dictator. I like to get on their level and meet them where they are, and I like to have fun while I’m doing it. A little bit of humor goes a long way.

Q: What was the first concert you attended?

A: Taylor Swift when I think I was 15 years old. I liked her when she was a country singer.

Q: What is your spirit animal?

A: A sloth because in my free time I like to be slow and lazy!

Q: Name the best item or gadget you purchased from Amazon?

A: I love my book light! I like sitting in a dark room and using its spotlight while I’m reading. Plus, it saved me during the Derecho a few years ago.
