Electives Grade 5
Course Descriptions
Research 5 & 6
In this course, we will gain advanced knowledge and skills in applied research. In each meeting we will be tackling real-world problems and applying to each new problem what we have learned from the last. At a certain point in this course, we will take a giant leap and attempt to be the change we wish to see in the world. At this point we will take all that we have learned and point it toward our own individual areas of interest with the goal of seeking an understanding and solution that has yet to exist. Where you go after this? As far as your mind can carry you!
Technology 5 & 6
The technology elective in Middle School provides the boys an opportunity to explore programming, robotics, 3D modeling/Printing, Digital Design, Video editing while reinforcing necessary life skills. Students will be challenged to critically think while exploring Design Thinking strategies while exercise their creativity.
Music 5 & 6
Grades 5 & 6 will have the possibility of two options in music this coming year. All electives will be a year long class, and not able to be repeated (if you take it in fifth grade, you cannot take it again in sixth grade). The classes will be combined with grades 5 & 6 working together.
MUSIC OPTION 1:

The ensemble class will center on group performance technique, learning to sing with a confidence and proper "tone" and vocal health, learning to read music on the staff, and learning music from many different genres, styles and historically relevant music. This class would help ready you for joining the Choir, the Theatre, or a percussion or guitar ensemble when you enter High School.
MUSIC OPTION 2:
GRADE 5 & 6 MUSICAL Culture, History & Instrumental Performance
This class would center on two different aspects of Music: History and Cultural relevance of music (American Roots, Classical Musical History) and the learning to read music for performance on classroom instruments such as: Percussion, Ukulele and the Silver Bells. This class would geared for those who enjoy music, but are not necessarily interested in singing, or larger performances. It would help ready you to join certain classes at the High School level.
