COVID-19 Closure

The Regis School of the Sacred Heart will be closed to students Friday, March 13, March 16-20 for Spring Break, and March 23 – May 1, 2020. Starting on Monday, March 23, 2020 students will begin remote learning from home through May 1. Regis plans to reopen on Monday, May 4, but the school will reassess if a change needs to be made. Please visit our Coronavirus webpage for updates and information on school plans as they relate to COVID-19.

Please remember, even though our campus is closed, school is still in session!

General Remote Learning Guidelines

Student Roles & Responsibilities

Establish daily routines for engaging in the learning experience (for example, set an 8:30AM start time for classwork).
Identify a comfortable, quiet space in your location to learn effectively and successfully. Consider lighting, space for books, computer/iPad and a comfortable chair to create an effective learning environment.
In Middle School, regularly check your email or your class pages for announcements or feedback from your teachers.
Complete assignments with integrity and academic honesty.
Be a good digital citizen and comply with the Regis Technology Acceptable Use Policy.
Do your best to meet timelines, commitments and due dates.

Parent/Guardian Roles & Responsibilities

Check parent email and/or class pages daily for school updates and communication from teachers.
Establish routines and expectations with your son.
Identify a space in your home for your child to work without distraction on their assigned work, where you can occasionally monitor them and encourage good digital citizenship practices when he works online.
Make sure that your son is checking his assignments on his Class Pages daily and staying in communication with his teachers.
Have a daily check-in with your son about his progress on learning experiences to see if he has any questions or needs support.
Establish times for reflection, mindfulness and relaxation practices.
Encourage physical activity and/or exercise. A Regis boy is an active boy!

Parent/Guardian Assistance

Early Childhood and Lower School parents will need to assist their sons with assignments from their teachers.
While parents may be expected to assist in the management of the learning process, parents are not expected to be placed in the role of teacher. In most cases, students should be able to independently carry out the tasks assigned by teachers.
The goal is for learning to be authentic. Learning activities can occur online or offline (e.g. reading, exercising, drawing, playing, constructing, writing, etc., are perfectly acceptable virtual school day tasks that can be documented through photographs, videos and reports or turned in remotely upon return to school).

We will learn, daily, what is working best for students and their families. If we find something isn't working, we will adapt and adjust. Lower School Guidelines & Plans

Lesson Plans & Expectations

Kindergarten–4th Grade teachers will continue to deliver their curriculum.
Lesson plans for the week will be posted to the Class Page by 10:00AM on Monday, March 23.
- For subsequent weeks, lesson plans will be posted by end-of-day on Friday of the preceding week.
Some teachers may schedule 'synchronous' classes, where an entire class will video conference with their teacher at the same time. These synchronous classes will be planned in advance to maximize attendance.

Students will be asked to submit evidence of their work. Your weekly communication from your homeroom teacher will include specifics about what to submit, and how and where to turn it in. We are prepared to be flexible.

Teacher Communication

Teachers will be checking email throughout the day and will be responding to messages at regular intervals between 8:00AM–3:30PM, Monday through Friday, while distance learning is employed.

Your son's teachers will continue to communicate with you via email throughout the week, and they will also schedule a check-in to connect with your son, as well as you, our parents.

Middle School Guidelines & Plans

Middle School teachers will continue to deliver their curriculum.
Lesson plans for the week will be posted to the Class Page by 10:00AM on Monday, March 23.
- For subsequent weeks, lesson plans will be posted by end-of-day the preceding week.
Students should utilize the Discussion function of the Class Page to ask questions about lessons or homework.
Some teachers may schedule 'synchronous' classes, where an entire class will video conference with their teacher at the same time. These synchronous classes will be planned in advance to maximize attendance.
New material will be taught utilizing audio recordings, videos or live sessions via Zoom. Live meetings will be recorded and available for those students who are unable to attend a live session.
All student assignments will be posted to Class Calendars.
Students will follow their letter-day rotation for both at-home work and Zoom classes. Work for a specific class can only take place on the letter-day they would normally have that class.

Key Terms for Remote Learning

Asynchronous

Class interactions happen via Learning Management System (Class Pages) without real-time interaction. Students engage in class materials and complete work at their own pace, typically within a given timeframe, often using discussion boards to drive peer-to-peer engagement.

Synchronous

Class interactions happen in real time, at the same time. Students may virtually attend class together via video conference, livestream or chat.

Screencast

A digital video recording of the teacher's computer screen, usually including audio narration. Screencasts are a form of instructional video. Teachers will utilize Screencastify or Zoom.

Video Conference

A virtual meeting in which participants in different locations are able to communicate with each other with audio and video. Teachers will utilize Zoom or Microsoft Teams for this function.
