Reading and Technology Improvements

Paddles Up 2022 provided the opportunity to foster our boys’ imaginations by supporting both reading and technology at Regis. 

The expansion of our classroom libraries in Lower School plays a key role in continuing to provide access to books and promote literacy. These libraries will further our student's journey towards becoming critical thinkers, analytical readers and informed citizens.

New technology tools will be added to Regis Lower and Middle School classrooms to engage students in expanding their imagination through the design thinking process. Through a growing curriculum centered on engineering and design challenges, these new technology experiences will further spark the imagination, curiosity and creativity of our Regis boys as they gain invaluable skills to impact their future world. 

The funds donated will purchase: 

• Over 4,500 books that will be added to the Kindergarten – fourth grade Classroom Libraries
• A Classroom Library Tools & Resource Pack for each Lower School teacher to help them access the deeper levels of instruction built into the curated libraries; book level labels, book bin cards and student-sticky note pads
• Cabinetry and bins that will house the books
• Curriculum updates to our Kindergarten – second grade reading programming, including the books and materials that aid in teaching blending, decoding and phonemic awareness
• Additional 3D printers to allow for a higher volume of printing to bring students’ 3D creations to life
• Robotics kits for the newly founded Middle School Robotics Club
• Headphones for each boy in Lower School
• Additional age-appropriate robots and other technology for the Lower School MakerSpace

Athletic Field & Equipment
Room to Run! Space to Play! Your Paddles Up donations will make our day! We just acquired some extra space, it just needs your help to get a temporary field in place! We’ll make it flat, add some grass, and make play-space for each Regis class! 

It’s right next door and all fenced in, just waiting for our games to begin! We can tag, we can pass, we can play soccer and rugby in the grass. Flag football and kickball and all kinds of games will make our new field the best in sight! So, raise your paddles and raise them high, and we’ll make our new field come to life tonight! 

For a special surprise for the bidder on top, the field will bear your name til the 2021-2022 school year comes to a stop! 

Other play items: The Shoot-A-Way Gun 8000, Banners for athletic achievement in the Gym, basketball goal operator kit, 15 basketball super tuff ball cart, 15 Wilson Evolution customized basketballs, plasma cars and tricycles. 

STEM Improvements

Raise your “paddle” to support much-needed improvements to our science and technology labs at Regis! Your contribution to Paddles Up will help us make upgrades, so that your boys will experiment and analyze, research and measure, dissect and examine, by bringing our science and technology labs fully up-to-date with much-needed materials and furnishings. Remember how much fun you had in high school dropping magnesium ribbon into jars of hydrochloric acid? Well… your boys at Regis won’t be doing that, but they will be learning the joys of discovery with their fully-upgraded science and technology workstations and equipment! The question isn’t “what are we going to do,” the question is “what aren’t we going to do?” 

Improvements include: 

• New work stations, stools and chairs
• Upgraded eye wash stations
• Electrical upgrade
• Specimens, safety gear, beakers, etc.
• Lower School biology models and study kits
• Curriculum tools for studying:
  • Cells
  • Genetics
  • Classification
  • Ecology
  • Dissections
  • Physics
  • and more!

YES, there will be a worm farm! YES, there will be something called a “Pro-Sect® Dissected Bullfrog Mount” (we don’t want to know)! YES, a new Levers and Pulleys kit will enhance understanding of mechanics and basic physics! We’ve got vertebrates, we’ve got invertebrates we’ve got hydroponics, we’ve got giant microbe models!! Nobody will put Baby in the corner of the new and improved Regis STEM labs! Talk to us, Goose, because strange things are afoot at the Circle K, and if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it all. Help a Regis boy become a “professor of archeology, expert on the occult, and… how does one say it? Obtainer of rare antiquities.” PADDLES UP! 

Campus Improvements

Come Together to support Paddles Up for Regis students! Your contribution will help us make improvements this summer to the Regis campus. Your boys play hard, run hard and enliven our Regis facilities with all they say and do. We will keep them cool and hydrated, while minimizing plastic bottle waste in the environment, with updated water bottle filling stations around campus in the academic buildings, the EC/LS playground and adjacent to the field. The track will be refreshed with a new border, leveling, crushed granite, new bleachers and a practice long jump area. You will also be able to hear your son’s voice loud and clear when his class leads a liturgy or prayer service with the installation of a new audio system in the Miller Family Student Life Center. All Together Now, let’s support the growing needs of our students and help bring continued success by updating the Regis facilities! 

Active Learning Furniture

At Regis, we are committed to offering the best possible education to each and every student, and that means accommodating different learning styles on a daily basis. Studies show that students learn best when they are active participants in their education. The Active Learning Classroom is the perfect fit for the active, all-boys environment at Regis. In a classroom employing Active Learning, students may experience individual work, group work, and traditional lecture all during the same class period. Classroom furniture must have the flexibility to adapt to these different learning preferences and be able to transition quickly for all learning modes. Inflexible layouts and furniture with limited mobility hamper interaction among students, instructors, and the subject material; in fact, the environment becomes a barrier to active learning in these instances. With our Paddles Up this year, we will purchase Active Learning furniture to outfit several classrooms at Regis! 

Playground 

Help make the new and improved playground for Regis boys a reality! An entirely NEW play structure targeted for boys aged 2-5 years old complete with SHADE to guard from UVA/UVB rays.  

• The castle themed structure features slides, climbing features and decking to survey the domain that is Pre-K 
• A ladder climber complementing the existing Lower School play structure for boys aged 5-12  
• Refreshed sandbox, new mulch, and new edging around all the existing play components 
• A floating pommel rail for all ages (3-12) designed to increase balance, gross motor skills and coordination 

If we reach our goal of $50,000, the new playground will be installed and ready for use on the first day of the 2017-18 school year. Your contribution to the playground is 100% tax deductible.
